«Potsdam meetings»

On November 8, 2016, in Moscow IE RAS Director, Corresponding member RAS Аl.А. Gromyko and Deputy Director IE RAS V.B. Belov took part in regular «Potsdam meetings», organized by Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Foundation and German-Russian Forum.

This time the discussion was named «Europe from Lisbon to Vladivostok. Invariable way to stability in Europe». The participants discussed the most acute issues of global agenda, including terrorism and situation in Middle East and Ukraine, as well as relations between Russia and Germany in politics, economy, science and culture.

After the welcome addresses of Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Foundation Executive Director L.V. Drachevskiy, German-Russian Forum Chairman М. Platzeck, German Ambassador to Russia R. von Fritsch, Special representative of the Russian President on international cultural cooperation М.Е. Shvydkoi, Russian foreign minister S.V. The main subject of the discussion, divided into two sessions, was the possibility of building the common security area from Lisbon to Vladivostok. It would be a highly complicated and controversial process. Nevertheless, most of the participants saw it as the only and invariable way of settling the existing contradictions.

Аl.А. Gromyko opened the first discussion session by his speech, moderated it and summed up its proceeds in the end. V.B. Belov took part in the second session. Аl.А. Gromyko gave several interviews to Russian mass media and participated in the final press conference.

The regular «Potsdam meetings» confirmed once again the efficiency of bilateral dialogue between Russia and Germany on the level of high-ranking representatives of their civil societies.
