2nd European Congress of Local Governments

On April 5-6, 2016, the 2nd European Congress of Local Governments took place in Krakov, discussing the ways to improve the efficiency of the EU structural funds. Almost 1200 people participated in the Congress: local government leaders, representatives of local elites, state authorities, science, business, culture, NGO, mass media from Central and Eastern European countries.

In recent years multilateral and direct cooperation of regions and European cities in social and economic spheres has developed to the level that affects the politics and economy of not only separate countries, but the whole continent. In this context the Congress’s slogan was «Current local government – people, cooperation, innovation» spanning the discussion over 7 subjects: Finance, Environment, Economy, Society, Innovation, Revitalization, Self-regulated organization. The Congress was organized by the Institute for East European Studies, famous for the Economic Forum and the Forum of Regions in Krynica.

The Institute of Europe RAS was represented at the Congress by leading scientific associate B.P. Guseletov, delivering speeches at two round tables «Impact of regional and local authorities on international conflicts settlement» and «Transborder and regional cooperation», discussing, among other subjects, the ways and prospects of strengthening the cooperation between regional and local authorities of Russia and the EU, including the sphere of international and regional conflicts.
