Seminar «European security under the avalanche of crises»

On December 12, 2016, in Primakov IMEMO RAS the Discussion forum «European dialogues» held the seminar «European security under the avalanche of crises».
The event was attended by representatives of RAS institutes, Moscow universities and diplomatic missions. IE RAS was represented by Y.A. Borko, Head of EU documentation center, and V.P. Zhuravel, leading scientific associate of Department of Country studies.
Reports were delivered by: Antti Helanterä, Deputy Head of Finnish Mission to Russia, RAS Academician А.G. Arbatov, Head of International security center of IMEMO and А.V. Zagorsky, Head of Department of disarmament and conflict settlement of IMEMO. Special stress was made on measures to prevent further escalation of tensions and gradual restoration of trust in relations between EU and Russia.

Y.А. Borko analyzed the reasons of the Ukrainian crisis and suggested a number of measures to normalize the situation in Eastern Ukraine and economic ties between EU and Russia. V.P. Zhuravel drew attention to the multi-vector impact of the situation in Syria on European security.
