On October 6, 2021, the Centre for British Studies of the Institute of Europe RAS held international conference «The United Kingdom Post Brexit». The topical problems of the economy, domestic and foreign policy of B. Johnson’s government were considered at the conference.
The participants were welcomed by Vladislav Belov, Candidate of Science (Economics), Head of Department of Country studies and Centre for German studies, IE RAS, and Elena Ananieva, Candidate of Science (Philosophy), Head of Centre for British Studies, IE RAS, and conference moderator. The peculiarities of EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement were highlighted in the report of Ludmila Babynina, Candidate of Science (Political Science), Head of Centre for European Integration Studies. Political reforms of the Johnson’s government were reviewed by Elena Ananieva. Problems of the UK regional policy and the growth of nationalism in Scotland and Northern Ireland were considered by Oleg Okhoshin, Senior Research Fellow, Centre for British Studies.
The Johnson’s government foreign policy strategy attracted the interest of researchers as well. The role of “Global Britain” in the new transatlantic balance was examined by Dmitry Danilov, Candidate of Science (Economics), Head of Department of European Security Studies, IE RAS. The “Russian threat” factor in the UK foreign policy was analysed by Kira Godovanyuk, Leading Research Fellow, Centre for British Studies.
Among participants of the conference were Deputy Leader of the Scottish National Party (1991-1992), Member of the UK Parliament (1970-1979, 1988-1992) Jim Sillars, who shared his views on the UK domestic and foreign policy from the Scottish perspective; Leader of the party “Restore Scotland” David McHutchon and D-r Tom Walker.
