On May 25, 2016, in Vienna, Head of IE RAS Department of Social and Political Studies V.Y. Shveytzer took part in the conference «Austria – Russia relations: yesterday, today, tomorrow», organized by «Russkiy Mir» Foundation together with Russian Center for Science and Culture in Austria and Austrian-Russian Friendship Society, under the patronage of and with participation of representatives of the Russian Embassy in Vienna.
The conference has four sections.
- Russian-Austrian ties: historical perspective.
- Interstate multilevel dialogue, building trustful neighboring relations after WWII to the present time.
- Business dialogue and diversity of trade and economic ties between Russia and Austria.
- Austrian-Russian relations in-between bilateralism, multilateralism and European integration.
The conference demonstrated vivid interest of the Austrian society to the above topics. The event was attended by over 100 people, and the discussion was shared by 15 guests of the forum. V.Y. Shveytzer addressed the fourth section with a speech on the importance of Austrian neutrality for stabilization in Europe over the last 50 years.
