On February 27, 2017, Igor Sherbak, Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary, Leading scientific associate IE RAS, visited the festive opening ceremony of the 11th Model UN session at Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The ceremony also featured the participation of Andrey Kokoshin, dean of the Faculty of World Politics at MSU and member of the Academy of Sciences; Aleksey Fenenko, manager and superviser of the UN Model, Vladimir Kuznetsov, head of the UN Information Centre in Russia. In their speeches, honorable guests underlined that Model UN is an effective platform which helps students to acquire practical knowledge about the structure and functioning of UN and its main bodies. According to the speakers, the Model also improves proficiency of diplomatic staff. The Model now enjoys participation of more that 200 students from Russia and CIS countries.
Igor Sherbak held a report dedicated to the role of UN as a center of coordination of the world politics, a crisis management tool and a prototype of the future global governance. He emphasized that strengthening the role of UN in international relations is one of the top priorities of Russia's defense policy.
