XVI International Likhachev Scientific Conference

On May 19-21, 2016, IE RAS Director Аl.А. Gromyko took part in XVI International Likhachev Scientific Conference «Current global challenges and national interests» in Saint-Petersburg University of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The conference is held in SPbUHSS since 1993, initiated by Academician Dmitry Likhachev and supported by Russian Foreign Ministry. In 2001, by Presidential Decree the conference was given the name of Likhachev. Co-founders of the conference: Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Academy of Education, the Congress of St. Petersburg Intelligentsia.
The new format of the conference in 2016 was represented by a series of panel discussions of invited experts and participants. Аl.А. Gromyko delivered the report «Constancy and inconstancy in the history of international relations», and acted as а moderator of the panel discussion «International cooperation in fighting terrorism».
The conference was attended by dozens of prominent representatives of foreign and Russian science, culture and arts, social and political figures, including: G. Gatilov – deputy Russian foreign minister; S. Glazyev – Counsellor of the Russian President, RAS Academician; D. Granin – writer, Honorary doctor of SPbUHSS; R. Grinberg – Scientific head of RAS Institute of Economy, Corresponding member RAS; G. Kolodko – Director of Research Institute of Leon Kozminski University (Poland), Vice Prime-minister and Finance minister of Poland (1994–1997; 2002–2003); A. Lisitzin-Svetlanov – Director of RAS Institute of State and Law, Academician RAS; C. Moynihan – Lord, member of the House of Lords (UK); M. Мoratinos – former Spanish foreign minister (2004–2010), Honorary doctor of SPbUHSS; А. Nekipelov – Director of Moscow School of Economics of Lomonosov MSU, RAS Academician, Honorary doctor of SPbUHSS; V. Pligin – Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Constitutional Law and State Construction; V. Chereshnev – Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Science and Knowledge-Intensive Technologies, RAS Academician.
