On May 14, 2016, in Minsk, the international conference «European Union – Eurasian Economic Union: confrontation or competitive cooperation» was held, initiated by Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and Party of the European Left, attended by representatives from Germany, Belgium, Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine, France and Czech Republic. The main subject of the discussion was the state and prospects of EU and EEU relations.
Russia was represented at the conference by leading scientific associate of IE RAS, Dr. B. Guseletov and assistant professor of MGIMO University К. Кокtysh. B. Guseletov presented the report «EU and EEU: from non-recognition through dialogue to constructive cooperation?», stating that EU – EEU relations are now going through hard times due to the conflict in Ukraine and consequences of economic and migration crises in most countries of the continent. Nevertheless, all peoples of Eurasia are interested in economic, political and cultural ties between EU and EEU. Therefore, their relations should definitely improve, and all the political forces involved, and the expert community, must use every chance to promote them. The main ideas of B. Guseletov’s report were welcomed by the audience, including the representatives of Ukraine.
