On November 14, 2016, leading scientific associate of IE RAS Center for German Studies А.К. Каmkin took part in the discussion on the crisis of Western political elites in «Pravo Golosa» talk show on TVC channel.
In light of the unexpected victory of Donald Trump, previously considered a populist and non-systematic politician, А.К. Каmkin outlined the rise of protest voices in the USA and Europe, as well as the general crisis of ultra-liberalism, that had turned into a “religion” for the Western society.
The crisis of traditional peoples parties in Europe may lead to growth of ultra-right moods, which could mean fierce political struggle in the coming elections in France and Germany. The long years of ignoring national interests in migration and economic integration finally urged the silent middle class in Europe and USA, not used to active protesting, to vote against the system. This makes political constructions unstable, which is especially dangerous in light of economic and demographic crisis. Is this a new page in the history of European and American politics or temporary moods of the dissatisfied voters? The coming months risk to give an unexpected answer to this acute question.
