International conference in IE RAS

On December 1-2, 2016, IE RAS together with Embassy of Slovak Republic in Moscow held international scientific conference «Relations of the Visegrad Group and EU with Russia», attributed to the Slovak Republic presidency in the EU Council. The event provided for the traditional (11th) round table «Russia and the Central Europe in new geopolitical reality», organized in IE RAS.
The conference was attended by over 120 participants, including 13 special foreign guests and 40 representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Moscow.
The event was opened by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to Russia Peter Priputen. Welcome speech and introductory report was delivered by IE RAS Director, Corresponding member RAS Аl.А. Gromyko. Other reports on Visegrad region and relations with Russia were prepared by Géza Jeszenszky, Ambassador, Hungarian Foreign Minister in 1990-1994, Igor Grexa, Director of Department of Analysis and Policy Planning, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Lubov Shishelina, Head of IE RAS Department of Central and Eastern European Studies.
The participants were greeted by: Sergey Nechaev, Director of the Third European Department of Russian Foreign Ministry; Tomas Reyes-Ortega, Head of Political Section at EU Delegation to the Russian Federation; Julius Freytag-Loringhoven, Head of Friedrich Naumann Foundation Moscow bureau.
The main subjects of the conference were: EU-Russia relations in economy and energy; Visegrad Group-Russia relations: 25 years of experience and new challenges; Eastern partnership of EU – Western neighborhood of RF.
The event was supported by Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund and Friedrich Naumann Foundation Moscow bureau.
