On December 2-3, 2016, in Sassari (Italy) XXXV International conference «Mediterranean cities. Meeting for cooperation» was held, organized by Institute of Mediterranean Studies (Italy) together with Institute of Europe RAS.
The conference heard report on three principal subjects: geopolitical issues of Mediterranean cooperation, including the activity of Christian churches; Italian policy within the EU, as well as social, economic and legal issues.
IE RAS was represented by: senior scientific associates Е.А. Маslova and V.Е. Yazkova. The conference was attended by representatives of MGIMO, RSUH, UFU, as well as academic circles of France, Italy, Spain, Alger, Morocco, Greece, Tunisia. Е.А. Маslova presented the report on Russian and Italian twin towns (Krasnodar and Ferrara, Novorossiysk and Livorno, Sochi and Rimini, Anapa and Riccione), outlining the importance of returning to cooperation on bilateral and international agenda problems. V.Е. Yazkova traced the common and specific features in relation to the Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox churches to the migration problem in Italy and Russia, focusing on the Russian scenario of social and cultural integration of migrants.
