International expert council on cooperation in the Arctic in Saint Petersburg

On October 4, 2016, in Saint Petersburg in the course of «TRANSTECH-2016» exhibition the Fourth annual meeting of International expert council on cooperation in the Arctic took place, where leading scientific associate of IE RAS Valery Zhuravel delivered a speech.
The event was supported by Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund and devoted to the 20th anniversary of the Arctic Council and acute problems of the policy of Russia and European states in the Arctic.
The event was attended by foreign guests and representatives of Russian universities from Moscow, Archangelsk, Saint Petersburg, Vladivostok, Arctic Public Academy of Sciences, as well as experts in development of the Northern Sea Route. The meeting was greeted by the Secretary of Russian Security Council N.P. Patrushev.
Valery Zhuravel devoted his report to peculiarities of international cooperation in the Arctic in the conditions of anti-Russia sanctions and acute Russian Arctic problems: support of native peoples of the North, formation of development zones in the Arctic, development of the Northern Sea Route, as well as elaboration of Federal Law «On development of the Russian Arctic zone».
During the meeting the second issue of «Arctic review» journal was presented (http://transtec.transtec-neva.ru/files/File/2016/news/arctic01.pdf), with the article of V. Zhuravel «State Commission on Arctic development: results of the first year».
