IE RAS Director Al.A. Gromyko participated in Munich Security Conference that took place in the Bayern capital on February 12-14, 2016.
The Conference was established in 1963 as a meeting of representatives of military ministries of NATO member-states. Today this international forum hosts heads of states and governments, defense and foreign affairs ministers, diplomats, military officers, politicians and businessmen, scientific and social figures from more than 40 countries of the world.
Participants of the Conference discussed current international security challenges, further measures of fighting ISIS and other terrorist organizations, situation in Syria, migration crisis in Europe, Russia – West relations, ecological problems, Africa development problems etc. One of the main events was the speech of Russian Prime Minister D.A. Medvedev, who stated that NATO politics in relation to Russia "remains unfriendly and closed", that "we are tumbling into the new Cold War". In the panel discussion Russia was represented by Russian Foreign Minister S.V. Lavrov.
